Collapse is a sound and video installation comprised of reassembled archival footage. A collaboration between Palestinian artists Basel Abbas (sound and music) and Ruanne Abou-Rahme (film and video) the piece weaves elements sourced from news footage, archive material and Palestinian field recordings into a testament to resistance, longing, struggle and loss which blurs boundaries between the real and the fictional, art and documentary.

Concerned with discontinuities, disappearances and forgettings, Collapse is full of spectral overlays and double exposures that serve to make the absent visible, hinting at futures that never were. Be sure to check out APEngine’s interview with Basel and Ruanne for more on their practice and the piece’s construction.
